How we collect, use, and protect your information at unQbd.

unQbd Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains our practices and your choices regarding personal information in connection with the unQbd platform, including our website, web app, and related services for books, audiobooks, subscriptions, social features, author tools, and customer support.

Information we collect

  • Account and profile information: name, email, username/handle, password (hashed), profile image, preferences, membership tier (Free/Premium), and communication preferences.
  • Usage and activity: library items, reading/listening progress, highlights/notes, ratings/reviews, searches, recommendations you interact with, and in-app navigation and feature usage.
  • Social and community features: posts, comments, likes, follows, direct interactions, moderation signals, and abuse reports.
  • Device, log, and analytics data: IP address, device/browser type, language, approximate location (derived from IP), cookie identifiers, app/feature telemetry, and crash logs.
  • Payment and transactions: subscription plan, purchases, and limited payment metadata. We use third-party processors (e.g., Stripe) and do not store full card numbers.
  • Support and communications: tickets, emails, in-app messages, and your communication settings.
  • Author and payout information (for creators): tax and payout information as required by law and to process earnings.
  • Referral and affiliate data: referral codes/links, campaign attribution, and related metrics.

How we use information

  • Provide, maintain, and personalize the service (including recommendations, library sync, and cross-device progress).
  • Process subscriptions, purchases, and payouts; detect and prevent fraud and abuse.
  • Enable social features and community safety, and enforce our Terms and community guidelines.
  • Measure performance, fix issues, and improve features via analytics and telemetry.
  • Send service and transactional communications (e.g., receipts, password resets, critical notices); send marketing with your preferences/consent.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect the rights, property, and safety of unQbd, our users, and the public.

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, provide analytics, and improve performance. You can manage cookies in your browser settings; essential cookies are required for core functionality. We do not sell your personal information.

Cookie Preferences: You can also manage certain in-app cookie and tracking preferences in Settings when available, or contact us to request changes.

Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK)

  • Contract: to provide and administer the Service you requested.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure, improve, and personalize the Service, and prevent fraud, where not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent: for optional activities (e.g., certain marketing); you can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligations: to comply with applicable laws (e.g., tax, accounting, KYC).

Sharing of information

  • Service providers: infrastructure (e.g., Azure), payment processing (e.g., Stripe), communications (email/push), analytics, content delivery, and customer support tools.
  • Legal and safety: to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and protect against harm, fraud, or security issues.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this Policy.
  • Public content: content you post publicly (e.g., reviews, comments, profile name/handle) is visible to others.

Subprocessors

We use trusted vendors to operate the Service, including:

  • Microsoft Azure (hosting, compute, storage, logging, analytics)
  • Stripe (payment processing)
  • Email/push providers (transactional communications)

We may update this list and will provide notice where required by law.

Data retention

We retain information while your account is active and as needed for the purposes described above, including legal, accounting, and reporting requirements. In general, we may retain account information for the life of the account and for a period thereafter (for example, up to 24 months) for legitimate business or legal purposes. We may retain de-identified or aggregated data after deletion.

Your choices and rights

  • Access, update, or delete certain account data in your profile settings, or contact us to make a request. We may require reasonable identity verification.
  • Manage email/push marketing preferences; you will still receive essential service emails.
  • Manage cookies in your browser and see Cookie Preferences above. Some features require essential cookies.
  • We generally respond to requests within 30–45 days where applicable; you may appeal a denial by replying to our decision.

US state privacy (e.g., CA/CO/CT/VA/UT): We do not sell personal information. We do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If that changes, we will provide required notices and opt-out mechanisms. You may exercise rights to access, delete, correct, or obtain a copy of your information, subject to verification and exceptions.

EEA/UK: You may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to help protect personal information. No system is 100% secure. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your credentials safe.

Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track

Some browsers offer Global Privacy Control (GPC) or Do Not Track signals. We currently do not respond to DNT signals, but we honor GPC where required by law.

International data transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers (e.g., EU Standard Contractual Clauses, UK IDTA) and perform transfer assessments as needed.

Children’s privacy

unQbd is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.
